Nevada Corrections Association News
www.NevadaCorrections.org

From Gene Columbus, NCA's new Vice President
The Nevada Corrections Association is proud to serve the Correctional Staff in Nevada. As Vice President, I want to pledge my full commitment to the “Nuts and Bolts” of our organization. That is the representation process of our membership. In light of the recent elections, there are some new and enthusiastic folks in key positions that want to make a difference. Investigations are running rampant across the state, and the NCA wants to make sure its members are covered. We are in the process of reviewing some fresh ideas and look forward to being there when you need us. Thank you for your support, and we welcome your comments and suggestions. The NCA is member run, and it belongs to all of you.

Election Results
In a very close election incumbent Treasurer Tamera Bartel won another term. Her opponent Cliff Cardella has agreed to head the NCA's political action committee. Thanks to both of them for their dedication to the organization.
12 Hour Shifts
At a recent meeting with Director Skolnik NCA representatives expressed our opposition to switching most facilities to 8 hour shift schedules. Director Skolnik listened to our concerns and stated that we would still go to eights. It is his feeling that eights are best for the Department's safety and security. He also said that if predictions of positive results gained by moving to eights fail to materialize then we may return to twelve hour shifts. We will continue to compile information on favorable aspects of 12 hour shifts. The NCA will continue its efforts on this important issue.
